Jurgen Van den Broeck became third in the genral classification of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The gap with winner Andrew Talansky was 35 seconds. Alberto Contador lost 1st place in the final stage. Froome lost 5 minutes, and did not even finish in the top 10 of the GC.

It all started with a breakaway set up by 23 riders, with Jurgen Van den Broeck, Tony Gallopin and other GC riders.  Contador reacted on the second to last climb, and Froome could not follow him. At the front, 8 riders of the breakaway, including Van den Broeck, survived and started the last climb all together.

Nieve was the first to attack, and he made it to the finish. Talansky and Van den Broeck finished 8 seconds behind him on place 4 and 5. Talansky took the GC, Contador was 2nd, and Van den Broeck made the podium on a third place. With this performance he takes away all doubts, and looks ready for the Tour de France.

Jurgen Van den Broeck: "Before the start of the Dauphiné I had hoped I could show I was competitive. That I'm on the podium is a marvelous result. Now I'm going on a training camp to the Sierra Nevada. Of course the Belgian Championship is planned at the end of the month (29th of June) and then the team heads off to the Tour. This Dauphiné has calmed my nerves in the run-up to that Tour de France."

Van den Broeck always rides a Helium SL. It is easy to reach the 6.8kg weight limit of the UCI with this frame. This makes it ideal for climbing.
