Meeusen takes the win in the Koppenbergcross

main news image

The Koppenbergcross was a very closed race. A sharp acceleration by Albert split the front group, with Belgian champion Vantornout able to follow. Sven Nys, who could have won his 10th Koppenbergcross, closed the gap. Pauwels and Walsleben also tried to break away, but the decision was only made in the last lap.

Meeusen surged into the technical section leading to the climb and attacked hard on the climb, leading Vantornout. The Belgian Champion took the lead, and was pushing Meeusen to the limit. Pauwels seemed to be in the most comfortable position, with Meeusen doing all the work to close the gap. The trio rode onto the finish straight together, and Meeusen started the sprint very early. Pauwels and Vantornout were immediately left behind, and Meeusen cruised to victory. Pauwels and Vantornout completed the Ridley podium.
