The 2013 Ridley Bikes range
As tradition requires, we are launching our range for the new season on Eurobike in September. This year we have many new features that will surely captivate the audience!
The lightest Ridley frame ever built: The Helium SL
In our stiffness to weight range, we introduce a new flagship: the Helium SL. With its 750 grams, the Helium SL is a lot lighter than the current Helium which has been an established bike in the World Tour peloton for many years. The Helium SL was created after a thoughtful engineering process that allowed us to bring down the weight without losing stiffness. We achieved this by using ultra stiff high modulus carbon which is also used in aviation, and by determining the optimal tube shape so that the frame provides the right stiffness in the right places, while offering the necessary comfort where needed. For the development of the tube form, we have made use of our known "Form follows function" principle. This frame was tested and improved in cooperation with the riders of Lotto-Belisol.
Aerodynamics to the max: The Noah FAST
The Noah FAST has been the showpiece of our aero range since last year. This perfectly streamlined bicycle has three patented technologies that help the cyclist to defeat the wind resistance.
With the F-surface technology, we apply a textured surface to specific places to keep the wind close to the frame and reduce air resistance (same principle as the dimples on a golf ball).
The F-Splitfork leads the headwind away from the spokes and ensures an airflow away from the wheels. The influence of the air flow on the spokes is reduced with less turbulence and drag as a result.
The F-Brake is our latest technology. This is the first fully integrated brake! A normal caliper disrupts the aerodynamics of a bike, but this integrated brake even improves the air flow. The integrated brake allows the F-Splitfork to be extended from dropout to fork crown, so we can reduce the drag even further. Our F-Brake is also lighter than a normal set of brakes, and ensures better braking. In short, this is the first brake that makes you faster!
For our 2013 range, we have improved the Noah FAST even further. For this we could rely on the expertise of the entire Lotto-Belisol team. You can tell this is a very fast and reliable bike by looking at André Greipel, one of the strongest sprinters in the peloton. He catapulted his Noah FAST to sprint victories in many major competitions, including 3 stage victories in the Tour de France.
The pinnacle of strength and stiffness: the Fenix
In the strength range, there are also big changes ahead. The best features of the Damocles and Excalibur, that both were part of the Ridley range for many years, were combined into a single frame: the Fenix. Because of its unique design, the Fenix is a versatile frame, suitable for both competitive and recreational riders. The oversized sharp edge tube construction ensures rigidity, and is extremely strong along the whole frame. André Greipel tested this great all-rounder this season in the Flemish spring classics like Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.
The frame is available in both carbon and aluminum.
New women’s range: the Liz
In the women's range, the Asteria and Yana make way for the Liz (carbon) and Liz 7005 (aluminum). These frames use the same technologies as the Fenix, but with a specific geometry for women. A shorter top tube and higher head tube ensure that every woman can easily find her perfect position on the bike. Furthermore, both the seat- and chain stay have flex zones that absorb vibrations from the road. This increases comfort significantly without compromising stiffness. Ideal for both recreational and competitive riders.
Cyclocross bikes with disc brakes
We were the first to introduce a full carbon cross frame, the first to have integrated seat posts, the first to introduce 1-1/8 1-1/2 tapered head tubes, and now we are leading the way in using disc brakes in our cross range. These brakes provide a better braking power, which is very important in cyclocross! With 7 pro world champions since 2002, Ridley has proven to possess the knowhow to make great CX bikes. This is also obvious in the 2013 range.
A completely new MTB range
With all these new developments for 2013, the Ridley MTB range could not stay behind. Our hard tails have been completely renewed and are now available with both 26 and 29 inch wheels. The larger 29 "wheels offer more stability, perfect grip, and let you go down technical descents with confidence. With its "Stable Core Concept" the new top model, the Ignite C, provides a perfect combination of stiffness and power transfer and ensures a high level of comfort because of the advanced carbon construction. Our mountain bikes are available in both carbon and aluminum, and this in various designs.
As you will have noticed, our range has changed a lot this year. We always try to develop innovative bikes that meet all the needs of both competitive and recreational riders, and this on all surfaces. With this 2013 range, we certainly succeeded in our goal!
