Debusschere won the Belgian Championship in Wielsbeke. He beat Roy Jans and Tom Boonen in a mass sprint.

On an almost entirely flat course, a mass sprint seemed unevitable. Still, it looked for a long time that the escapees would make it until the end. Lotto-Belisol rode a very attacking race. First, a group of 12 escaped, including Tosh Van der Sande and Boris Vallée. The Wanty-Groupe Gobert team paced the peloton, and they caught the breakaway with 70K to go. 9 riders immediately attacked again, with no fewer than 4 riders of Lotto-Belisol: Boeckmans, Dehaes, Broeckx and again Van der Sande. With 2 laps to go, Van der Sande was dropped. He did a great job for the team being in the offensive the entire day.

It seemed that the escapees would sprint for the title, especially because Omega Pharma - Quickstep had a very fast rider in the breakaway with Steegmans. Yet, with 6 K to go, they decided to go for the mass sprint. The escapees were caught with 1 kilometer to go. Roelandts launched Debusschere, who was able to make it to the finish line in front of Jans and Boonen. A fantastic result for the young Lotto-Belisol rider!

Jens Debusschere: "In the team we had several fast guys, so we didn't start with just one captain today. We rode offensively. In every break we had a rider who could finish the job. When the nine took off we didn't have to chase with two fast guys in front: Kris Boeckmans and Kenny Dehaes. That was the perfect situation for us. Eventually Omega Pharma - Quick-Step led the group to the sprint.
Jürgen and I had an easy day in the peloton until the final sprint. The experience we have from André Greipel's train came in handy. We took off on the right side of the road to avoid the wind. I'm very grateful that Jürgen Roelandts sacrificed himself for me."
