Roelandts tops breakaway on opening stage of l'Eurometropole Tour
After an excellent performance at the Worlds, where he did a lot of work for Boonen and world champion Gilbert, Roelandts took his second victory of the season. He also won the fourth stage in the Tour of Luxembourg.
In the opening stage, Roelandts outsprinted his seven breakaway companions and finished before Van Keirsbulck and Wynants. The winning escape finished 39 seconds ahead of the peloton, which is very good for Roelandts’ GC. He leads the general classification by 9 seconds.
Jürgen Roelandts is having a great end of the season after crashing hard in the Tour Down Under in January. He was able to fully recover in late May, but by then, the spring classics were over. Missing this goal was very hard for Jürgen, but we hope he will be able to prove himself in these races next year.
