In the first week of the new year Rob Peeters was the best in ‘Centrumcross Surhuisterveen’ (NL). The 27 year old Belgian rider of the Telenet-Fidea Cycling Team managed to ride away from his competitors in the last lap and crossed the finish line solo, picking up his first win of the season. Dutch rider Thijs van Amerongen finished second, just before German rider Philipp Walsleben.

The weekend after, the World Cup in Rome was on the program, and again a Ridley rider took first place. Pauwels, Albert, Vantornout, van der Haar, Mourey and Fontana broke way from the pack in the first lap, and they were never caught. The young van der Haar went down in a technical part of the course, and wasn’t able to catch up. Vantornout and Pauwels, both Sunweb - Napoleon Games, worked perfectly together as a team. Pauwels left a gap on Vantornout, which Albert and Mourey had to close. When they didn’t, Pauwels decided to try and close the gap on his own. He eventually did, and the two teammates seemed to be on their way to the first two places. A very unlucky Vantornout had technical problems with his chain in the last lap, and eventually finished fifth. For Kevin Pauwels, this was his second race on his new Ridley X-Night, and his second victory in 2013.
