The CX season of team Sunweb-Napoleon Games
The biggest win on a Ridley this season came from Klaas Vantornout who won the Belgian championship in Mol.
Vantornout had a very strong season: in the final standings of both the Superprestige and Bpost trophy, he finished in the top 3, which yields him a fourth place in the UCI rankings. Besides the Belgian championship, Klaas won the Superprestige races in Gieten and Middelkerke, and he became vice world champion in Louisville.
For the leader of Sunweb-Napoleon Games, Kevin Pauwels, the season was all but spotless. He was repeatedly struck by bad luck, making a good ranking in various classifications impossible. In the last World Cup race, a faltering chain in the penultimate round prevented him from taking the overall win. A positive note is that Pauwels demonstrated this season that he can win in tough conditions, such as in Baal.
Both Klaas Vantornout and Kevin Pauwels got a new CX bike this season. Our goal was to launch the new Ridley X-Night at the World Championship in Louisville (US) on February 3, 2013. To ensure the bike was ready for the job, Klaas Vantornout and Kevin Pauwels were asked to seriously test the new X-Night during training at the end of 2012.
Klaas Vantornout: "Both Kevin and I were so impressed by this new bike that we decided to start using it already at the World Cup race of December 26 in Heusden-Zolder (Belgium)."
The new frame is 350 grams lighter than its predecessor, while the profit on the entire bike is over 500 grams by using internal cable routing for both mechanical and electronic shifting.
The new X-Night will be available at Ridley dealers in May.
