Belgian tricolor for Campenaerts and the Dean FAST

European ITT champion adds another title to his tally
The Belgian nationals ITT were expected to become a battle between European champion Victor Campenaerts and reigning Belgian champion Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step Floors). The 43,2 kilometer long track suited Campenaerts very well and he managed to keep his competitor on 20 seconds. But Thomas De Gendt almost surprised everyone. The eternal attacker rode faster than Lampaert and only finished 2 seconds after Campenaerts. Lotto Soudal claimed the first two spots on the podium that way.

This Belgian title is the second for Campenaerts, as he won the competition for the first time in 2016. Winning a second time was one of his goals of the 2018 season. In the beginning of May he only missed the Pink Jersey in the Giro d’Italia with 2 seconds. Now it’s the way around. We won’t see the Belgian tricolor in the Tour de France, as this race wasn’t on the time trialist’s program. In August he will be battling to prolong his European title.
