Breakaway Boys targeting stage success at La Vuelta

  • News
For the first time in history, Uno-X will line up in Monaco this Saturday for the start of La Vuelta a España. At the third Grand Tour of the season, the team will once again be targeting stage success. To achieve this, the team is sending a well-balanced squad of eight strong Vikings to the start line. For Andreas Kron, it will be a welcome return to the stage race. Three years ago, he claimed an unforgettable stage victory in Barcelona aboard the brand-new Falcn RS.

The Grand Tours have been an absolute success for Uno-X this season. In the Giro, Fredrik Dversnes claimed a memorable stage victory, and he will also take the start in the Vuelta. In the Tour, of course, there were the exploits of Torstein Træen and Søren Wærenskjold, and now it is time for the Vuelta. The team hopes to repeat the successes of May and July, although this will be no easy task. If anyone can offer some advice, it is Kron, who was one of the first riders in the world to race the Falcn RS three years ago and remarkably won a stage with it straight away.

Alongside Kron and Dversnes, the other six starters will also primarily be targeting a stage victory. “We know the Spanish races well and have raced many events there over the past few years, but a Grand Tour on Spanish roads will be something special. It is exciting to be able to ride all three Grand Tours this year,” says sports director Leonard Snoeks. “Personally, I hope that we will be in the picture almost every day. We have a good plan and want to score collectively. That means we have to stay alert when the race is not yet being broadcast on TV. That is when we can make it into the breakaway. I see no reason why we cannot repeat the success of the Giro and the Tour.”

For team leader Tobias Halland Johannessen, the Vuelta will start the way the Tour ended: with plenty of attacking in the mountains. The Norwegian recently got engaged and is therefore riding on cloud nine. Andreas Leknessund will be more than happy to trade the three second places he took in the Giro for a victory in Spain. Simon Dalby and Martin Tjøtta will provide support wherever needed. Rasmus Tiller and Magnus Cort, meanwhile, can count on a strong sprint in the hilly finales. The latter will take part in a Grand Tour for the final time as Danish champion. He will do everything he can to finish on a high.

The team will use the Noah Fast and Falcn RS. Ridley wishes the Breakaway Boys the very best of luck in Spain!
