Ronny Sluyts (75) Breaks Hour World Record in His Age Category on Our Arena
Last Saturday, Rudolf ‘Ronny’ Sluyts from Lier delivered an outstanding performance at the Velodrome Limburg in Heusden-Zolder. Riding our very own Arena track bike, he broke the hour world record in the 75–79 age category. For Ronny, this achievement is the crowning moment of an impressive sporting career – and at Ridley, we are extremely proud to have helped make his dream come true.
Since 2011, Ronny has competed in the UCI Gran Fondos, where he built up an impressive record. In 2018, he was awarded the Sports Trophy during the Night of Sport in Lier, marking the start of a new chapter filled with sporting successes. In Trento, Italy, in late 2022, he claimed double gold in his age category – in both the road race and the time trial. A remarkable feat, especially considering he had suffered a serious crash four years earlier that kept him off the bike for a long time.

Last winter, Ronny already broke the Belgian hour record by more than 3 kilometers. This achievement planted the seed for a new and ambitious world record attempt, which he successfully completed last Saturday. Covering a distance of 43.763 kilometers in one hour, Ronny set a new global benchmark. Many friends and supporters witnessed this heroic feat from the stands.
Ronny achieved this performance on our Arena, a track bike we developed at Ridley for pursuit disciplines on the velodrome. The Belgian national track team also rides this bike, which recently received a modern update. From Beringen, we warmly congratulate Ronny on this exceptional record. He proves that age is no barrier to achieving greatness in sport!
