Second Belgian title for Lotto Soudal

Annelies Dom wins the women Belgian nationals in Binche on her Liz SL
The Belgian nationals have offered a second Belgian title for the Lotto Soudal team. Three days after the victory of Victor Campenaerts in the ITT, Annelies Dom has won the female road race on her Liz SL. The Lotto Soudal Ladies were almost all day in control, which resulted in a first and second spot on the podium.

The ladies race already started at 7.45h, exceptionally early for a professional road cycling race. The Lotto Soudal Ladies immediately tried to get the race under control, as one of their riders, Alan Castrique, got herself in the 4 women strong breakaway. At the moment they got caught back, race favorite Lotte Kopecky attacked. But the other teams didn’t plan to let her go and with about 40 km to go all riders got back together.

The next attack was launched by cyclo-cross world champion Sanne Cant, but the Lotto Soudal Ladies reacted well. Van den Steen and Dom managed to follow, together with De Vuyst. In the last lap three other riders closed the gap: Hannes, Duyck and Demey, a thirth Lotto Soudal Lady. Dom and De Vuyst escaped again, but Demey and Cant came back. Those four were sprinting for the national title. The Lotto Soudal Ladies outnumbered the rest and Annelies Dom sprinted to victory, while Valerie Demey took the second podium spot.

Congratz Annelies! We can't wait to see you shine in the Belgian black, yellow and red colors!
