Vuelta stage win for Jelle Wallays on the Helium SLX

He stays just ahead of an upcoming peloton
A flat stage with a traditional scenario. The La Vuelta 18th stage from Ejea de los Caballeros to Lleida was an excellent opportunity for sprinters to show their fast legs after the hills of the last exhausting days. A trio with the Belgian Lotto Soudal rider Jelle Wallays, Sven Erik Bystrom (UAE) and Jetse Bol (Burgos) colored the stage by setting up an early breakaway. Partly because of the flat course they seemed to be sitting ducks for the upcoming peloton. Quick-Step, Bora and Trek combined their forces to catch the leaders.

It seemed an impossible task, yet Wallays and Bystrom managed to finish the last kilometer with an advantage of about 20 seconds on the upcoming peloton. In the end it was Jelle Wallays who, thanks to his nerves of steel, managed to get this fantastic Vuelta stage victory.

The first success of Lotto Soudal during this Vuelta and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful victories of Jelle Wallays on his Helium SLX.
