ASTR RS versus Kanzo Adventure: a choice between performance or adventure?

In autumn 2024 we launched our ASTR RS, which quickly became an instant hit. Thanks to its groundbreaking 52 mm tire clearance, this bike is perfectly suited for gravel performance. Naturally, the riders of the Ridley Racing Team also used the ASTR RS on the biggest stages, such as Traka and UNBOUND. The Kanzo Adventure, on the other hand, is a bike designed for adventurers and bikepackers. So what are the main differences between the ASTR RS and the Kanzo Adventure?

1. Mounting points and setup

The number of mounting points on the ASTR RS is kept to a minimum, as each extra boss or bolt adds weight. The focus is on speed and weight, which is why we do not provide dynamo cable routing for lights. The Kanzo Adventure, however, features many mounting points on the frame and fork. You can fit bike bags, toolkits, additional bottle cages, mudguards, and even route dynamo and light cables through the frame and fork—ready for multi-day challenges.

2. Geometry

The geometry of both the ASTR RS and the Kanzo Adventure is based on the same principle of a lower bottom bracket and a longer wheelbase for increased stability. On the ASTR RS, this enables higher speeds through fast corners, while riders of the Kanzo Adventure will appreciate the added control and comfort on technical terrain. Both bikes feature a relatively steep seat tube angle of 74° for efficient power transfer. The key differences lie in the chainstay length and head angle: shorter chainstays and steeper head angle make the ASTR RS feel more aggressive compared to the more relaxed Kanzo Adventure.

3. Drivetrain compatibility

The ASTR RS includes a removable front derailleur mount, meaning both 1× and 2× drivetrains can be installed. With a 1× setup, the mount can be removed and replaced with a sleek cover, or swapped for a Ridley‑specific Wolftooth LoneWolf Aero Chain Guide. The rear UDH hanger is compatible with SRAM Direct Mount derailleurs (Eagle T-Type, RED XPLR). The Kanzo Adventure is designed as a dedicated 1× bike—no front derailleur means fewer worries on long gravel adventures and maximum tire clearance. You can increase gear range with a mullet drivetrain or the Classified Powershift system.

4. Tire clearance

Due to increasingly demanding terrain in gravel racing, the ASTR RS offers generous tire clearance of 52 mm (1× setup) or 47 mm (2× setup). With this capacity, the ASTR RS sets the standard for gravel race bikes! The Kanzo Adventure goes even further with up to 54 mm tire clearance, fitting 29×2.1″ MTB tires—offering you ample comfort and grip for adventures on any terrain.

The ASTR RS is built for those who count every second and aim for the podium. The Kanzo Adventure is your reliable partner for long rides, unknown trails, and epic bikepacking adventures. Two bikes, two philosophies – which one suits you?
