Michiel Coppens wins first race for BEAT CC p/b Saxo on Ridley bikes
Last Sunday, BEAT CC p/b Saxo reached an important milestone. Michiel Coppens (23) delivered the team its first victory of the season at the GP Vermarc. Since this year, the Dutch team has been riding Ridley bikes, and the design of these bikes is also available through our configurator. This performance shows that the team, together with us, has taken a great step forward.
The GP Vermarc in Rotselaar is a relatively new race on the calendar. This one-day race through the rolling landscapes of the Hageland region was first held during the coronavirus pandemic, when it became the first cycling race organised after the outbreak of the virus. Since then, it has become a fixed appointment on the calendar, bringing together professional riders and top amateurs to compete for this local classic.
The atmosphere within BEAT has been very positive in recent weeks. The team had already secured two third places and one second place and was eager to finally reach the top step of the podium. In the end, Belgian rider Michiel Coppens (23) delivered the win. He did so after a 20-kilometre solo effort, following a race ignited by his team. The rider from Zele thus puts an end to a difficult period after suffering a broken femur.

Important period
An important period now lies ahead for the team. Next week, BEAT will face the world’s best riders in its first .Pro race of the season: Bredene-Koksijde, a classic featuring the Kemmelberg. Sprinter David Dekker will take on top riders such as Tim Merlier and Dylan Groenewegen. On Sunday, the GP Monseré follows, where Coppens already finished third last year.
Meanwhile, the community is preparing for the first highlight of the year: the gravel race in Turnhout. Around 50 BEAT members will be at the start and will make use of the now popular Care Packages, provided by the club in collaboration with Maurten.
As the team’s bike partner, we are also offering something special for the community. BEAT club members can benefit from a special promotion: a 10% discount and a free BEAT design (worth €399) in our configurator.
