Tour de France 2026 recap: two days in Yellow, capped off with a stage win

  • News
The 113th edition of the Tour de France has come to an end. For Uno-X and Ridley, it was three unforgettable weeks. In Stage 4, Torstein Træen claimed the yellow jersey, marking the first time the Norwegian team had ever worn cycling's most iconic leader's jersey. It was also Ridley's first yellow jersey wearer since 2014. Although the yellow dream lasted just two days, Søren Wærenskjold's stage victory provided the perfect icing on the cake.

Tuesday, July 7 will remain a memorable day for all of us. During the stage from Carcassonne to Foix, Træen was the highest-placed rider in the day's large breakaway. As the race unfolded, he moved into the virtual race lead and, in the final kilometres, fought hard to secure the yellow jersey for real. He succeeded, and the following day the Norwegian climber proudly wore the most famous jersey in cycling.

Back at Ridley's headquarters in Beringen, we experienced every moment from the front row. CEO Jochim Aerts even put his workshop overalls back on to spray a Noah Fast in the iconic yellow colour. We then delivered the frame to southern France, where the team had everything ready to put the bike into action.

Triumph and tragedy

Unfortunately, the story of the yellow jersey ended on a bittersweet note. Træen crashed twice while wearing the leader's jersey. The first incident, in the closing kilometres of a sprint stage, caused only limited damage. However, during the brutal Pyrenean stage to Gavarnie-Gèdre, he crashed again, this time with far more serious consequences. By then he had already lost the yellow jersey virtually, and a broken rib ultimately forced him to abandon the Tour before Stage 7.

As a result, the much-discussed yellow Ridley Noah Fast never made it into the race. Thankfully, the bike still found a meaningful purpose. Through the Belgian cycling talk show Vive le Vélo, a replica of the bike was raffled for charity, with all proceeds donated to Kom op tegen Kanker (Stand Up To Cancer). A particularly fitting cause, as Træen himself is a cancer survivor.

Yet the success story was far from over. Just two days later, Tobias Halland Johannessen came agonisingly close to a stage victory in Ussel. After a long day of racing through the Corrèze region, he sprinted for the win from a small group but was only beaten by an outstanding Mathieu van der Poel.

Tobias never stopped believing, continuing to fight for a stage win throughout the Tour. In the end, however, it was another Norwegian who delivered. In the chaotic sprint of Stage 11, Søren Wærenskjold brilliantly capitalised on a remarkable move by Cees Bol, opening a decisive gap before holding off the chasing riders all the way to the finish.

One year after Jonas Abrahamsen's stage victory, Uno-X once again celebrated Tour success through a Norwegian rider. The achievement was made even more special by Anthon Charmig's aggressive ride earlier that day, which earned him the Combativity Award after spending hours in the breakaway. It perfectly illustrated the team's collective strength.

Vooruitzichten

With two remarkable highlights, Uno-X and Ridley look back on the 2026 Tour de France with immense pride. Only a select number of teams get to celebrate a stage victory in the Tour, and wearing the yellow jersey is an even rarer achievement. In 2026, we had the privilege of experiencing both.

Those moments will continue to inspire us in the months ahead. With the Vuelta a España still to come, where Uno-X will make its debut, we are already looking forward to chasing new milestones together.
