Compact, natural, and silent: why we choose TQ for our E‑ASTR
The E‑ASTR uses the brand‑new TQ HPR40 drive unit. That’s a deliberate choice for responsiveness that blurs the line between human and motor. It’s the most compact, lightest, and quietest e‑system on the market. We choose efficiency consciously: the HPR40 isn’t a new motor, it’s a new way to ride.
TQ developed the HPR40 out of a need for motorized support without compromising pure design. The fact that an e‑system becomes dead weight above 25 km/h was also a challenge for the engineers. They envisioned an ideal e‑system that delivers support exactly when needed, without altering the riding experience.
The result of all that thinking is the HPR40. It’s a drive unit that complements the rider instead of taking over. It’s so compact it disappears within the frame, so light you forget it’s there, and so subtle you don’t notice the assistance. With intelligent sensors and tailored software, the unit understands your riding style, letting you enjoy all the benefits without sacrificing any aspect of your ride.
The greatest advantage is the unobtrusive support in the form of barely noticeable weight, natural responsiveness, and seamless integration. It’s the perfect companion for anyone seeking easier rides without the downsides of a typical e‑bike. Pure riding pleasure always comes first.

In numbers
The internal 290 Wh battery weighs just 1,460 g, combining high energy density with the latest lithium‑ion cell technology. An intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) monitors temperature and charge status for optimal performance and longevity. The optional 160 Wh Range Extender is as compact as a 500 ml bottle, weighs only 960 g, and matches the main battery’s quality. You mount it easily using a Fidlock or standard bottle cage. The TQ charger is available in 100 W (2 A) or 200 W (4 A) and communicates directly with the BMS. Thanks to temperature and overvoltage protection, it charges safely and quickly while preserving battery life.
Controls are subtly integrated into the handlebar: LED lights in the bar end indicate ride mode and battery status, and an invisible button under the bar tape activates support.

HPR Technology
The HPR system uses a unique gear mechanism where multiple teeth engage simultaneously instead of just a few. Thanks to this clever double ring with precisely formed teeth, power is delivered directly, smoothly, and with almost no loss. This not only enables a more compact motor unit but also reduces wear, ensures nearly silent operation, and extends lifespan with minimal maintenance.

App and Software
The TQ app connects via Bluetooth and lets you customize motor behavior—from support level to pedal response. You can view battery status and software updates, and create personal profiles. Integration with external components—such as lights or electronics from Shimano, SRAM, Garmin, Wahoo, and more—is simple thanks to open ANT+ and OEM compatibility.
Range
Many riders want to know how far they can go with the drive unit. There isn’t a single answer, as it depends on the mode (eco/mid/high) and rider weight. Generally, an 80 kg rider can cover up to 130 km and 2,000 m of elevation gain in eco mode with the 290 Wh battery. In mid mode, it drops to 100 km and 1,700 m, and in high mode, 80 km and 1,200 m. For those who need more, the 160 Wh Range Extender is always an option.
